Today is the first semi-down day in SPN fandom due to a regressive backslide I’ve been getting asked about the potential causes of. Personally, for me, it’ll be rough not because of the change, but because my “queerbait” calls are far more reserved than my brethren due to the lenses I work at the tiers of production and marketing through, and I fully expect internal heat over my point of view. However, 

There’s still plenty of good things in the last few days.

In example:

Years ago, Castiel was an accessory on a show; once even considered removable by TPTB until undone; later promoted, and now, efficiently marketed as a true trio member rather than occasional duo+one. And honestly, I live to watch the antis slide in their desperate resistance.

This comes to mind because of this recent article,

It has been an uphill battle for Castiel fans, for years having to aggressively defend his place, and yes – to the potential upset of some of my followers, sometimes even against logic and reason (during early seasons; later it became truth and common sense.) But the anti slide has gone something like:

• Castiel doesn’t matter
• (Insert random heckling about Destiel)
• Castiel isn’t part of the team
• Castiel isn’t part of the FAMILY.
• Nope, nope, Dean still doesn’t care, ignore the brother and family lines. He’s not a lead
• They don’t market him
• They market him now but it’s PANDERING
• Okay so he’s FAMILY but HAH HAH BAND OF BROTHERS CAS IS ONLY A BROTHER HAHAHAHAHA

Do… do we see the slide in their desperate standing here? We are literally at a point where their only celebration can come from gloriously announcing that Castiel Is A Winchester Brother.

Let’s all take a moment to soak in the landscape shift within PR, the show and the fandom beneath it that has caused this.

SPN Season 18 is gonna be like HAHAHA OKAY SO THEY’RE MARRIED FAMILY WITH TWO ADOPTED KIDS BUT THEY’RE NOT IN LOVE.
