I SHOULD BE SLEEPING BUT I HAD A THOUGHT AND NOW IT WONT LEAVE
so i was shutting down some negativity with a positive qt about this summary:
and i was being very “hey these bonds need a shot at forming too” (because they do and sam&cas deserve some bro time that isn’t centered around OMG WE NEED TO SAVE DEAN) when it dawned on me:
mary was paired up with sam when they split up and they talked about bobby and how she finds it hard to get him to open up cause walls
and what was she wearing?
and who ELSE do we know wears a tan coat, hmm?
me when i connected the dots
ME AN HOUR LATER AFTER IT PROCESSED:
YALL
like imagine
cas and sam are in the car driving home. sam checks in with cas, just seeing how he’s doing emotionally cause that’s sam for ya. cas tries to use the winchester f word but half way through the syllable opens up about how he wishes dean would just talk to him about his trauma and let down his walls
and sam tells him the same thing he told his mother: that if he cares about him, and he knows cas does, he’d try to get past that wall.
i’m a freakin endgame-positive shipper and i’m gobsmacked at how freaking obvious they’re being
God I don’t like speculating too positively just in case cos I get accused of winding up the fandom but there’s a real opportunity there. I mean it just makes sense at this point. I don’t even hope for or expect it all but just Cas lamenting Dean’s walls would be epic.
It’s Bucklemming so either it’ll not happen at all or it’ll be a literal spade to the face… let’s see! Let’s not forget too that season 13 started off with a similar massive bang (and season 12 was quite strong too) then petered off massively so who knows, it could also just fizzle out. Let’s see and fingers crossed it doesn’t tho 😉
Also, @tinkdw, I don’t know how this relates but I’m pretty sure that at SDCC Eugenie said she wrote lines for Cas for this episode that she really liked?? Now, this is Eugenie so this could mean everything and nothing, and I still don’t trust her in any way, but they did step up their game for 14×02 and I’m hoping that by that she means good character development lines (though I find it hard to believe Dabb would give some kind of reveal, as subtle as it might be, to Bucklemming, unless he is guiding them somehow).
Still, the Cas stuff in 14×02 was SO GOOD I can’t help but be excited about Sam and Cas finally partnering up on a case!
yeah @tinkdw i don’t want to get my hopes up either it’s just that one purposeful wardrobe choice and pairing… it’s still just so blatant, no matter what cas and sam end up discussing, that my brain just can’t let that go
i can trust what eugenie says as far as i can throw her, but i believe that it was @intelligentshipper that mentioned she writes some good cas stuff so we’ll see!
also the fact that they’re using the buddy system is the cutest.
(and this is honestly just teeny giggle worthy i thought of because when using the buddy system, dean and cas aren’t paired up LOOOL)
I was falling asleep and didn’t have the brainpower to respond to this last night, but yes to all of the above. Generaly I don’t trust Leming but for the last few years her work with Cas has been solid, 14.02 wasn’t actually a shitshow, I’m staying at “hopes high, expectations low.” But while we may be able to – say – expect some clunky dialogue out of her we may also be able to think Dabb and co went, hey Eugenie, here’s what we’re aiming for. Because it honestly feels – given I’m gauging off of 14.02 – that she’s actually playing with the other kids in the writing room this year. In my experience BL eps OFTEN have them seperated. But minding that say, Dean’s confessional, or “You look good/should rest” all came out of BL eps, I don’t think we can gauge that they hard no homo wall it – whether or not it’s on purpose or not, they have written us good content in the area before. Buck always seems to handle Dean and Eugenie always seems to handle Cas, until they do their final bond-across moments to tie the episode together.
*serves cake*
Yeah, as soon as I saw the synopsis, I delighted in what we CAN potentially get after MIRROR-loaded 14×04 and 14×05 (in that 05 was, again, giving us increasingly overt nudges as per Bobby/Mary = Dean/Cas to communicate trauma, DECONSTRUCT it, and lean on each other (aka Dean desires Cas the confidante/lover-coded textual best friend, while Cas desires Dean to open up to him) as a relational unit for psychological healing.
High hopes, low expectations, yet again, BL’s 02 was surprisingly cohesive and non-creepy.
RIGHT I WAS SHOCKED
i have a feeling it’ll be like the awkward dinner at jody’s and only because jack might mention something.
dean doesnt want to think about his family having sex. which is understandable and relatable lol
also very interesting considering that he took cas to a brothel once….
what i’m gleaning from… whatever this is… is that dean is going to struggle with figuring out his place in the bunker. his place in the family.
dean has always been the person in charge. he had to raise sam. he was duty bound by his father to protect his baby brother. the past 14 years, he’s been calling the shots. dean has been made to be the leader 100% of the time, by his father. by fate. he doesn’t know how to not be a leader.
when he comes home to people calling sam “sir” and “chief” and deferring to sam’s leadership and everyone still alive and healthy (tho lbr probably not getting as much good food because their chef was mia)… he’s not going to know what to do with himself. he’s going to feel useless because what he thought was his only role in life is being filled by his giant moose of a brother.
and dean winchester does not take orders (non-sexy ones, anyway) so him and sam’ll probably clash. maybe sam and cas team up to yell at him to rest, they got this. dean is going to end up feeling like that sitcoms mom that goes back to work and thinks the house can’t run without her but everyone seems to be doing ok and she feels unneeded.
i do predict, tho, that they figure it out fairly quickly in a way that doesn’t piss them both off for episodes on end, preferably.
this season seems to be tfw figuring out together through jack, shared son and mirror extraordinaire, that their worth isn’t in what their roles are supposed to be or their powers or what their skills are.
it’s in the people they love. they’re needed and worth something because they have family that care about them and need them alive because they’re them.
i just want everyone to be and do things because they want to. not because they have “no other choice”.
I largely agree with this, but I think there’s a few elements to consider with Dean.
The more teasers we get the more it looks like when Jensen said that Michael won’t be resolved as quickly as it looks like or as quickly as we think, or comments from Dabb about semi-possession, on top of Dean’s struggling to find his place in a shifting hierarchy, we may have him still dealing with Michael ramifications throughout the season, rather than flashbacks like we thought it would be.
Dean has always been one to nest. The bunker was his sacred space, his home, now it’s full of a bunch of people he doesn’t know that all look to Sam as a leader. Sam is no longer the little brother anymore and is finally getting a chance to grow up. Dean WILL struggle, like you said, with his place in things but I also worry about it doubling back into enduring issues as/with/about Michael, possibly still looming inside of Dean in some capacity.
It’s going to be an emotionally driven season, and we still need to figure out exactly where Nick and the Empty fall into this, too.
I am a bit confused. “His body’s sort of accumulated a lot of, I think, antibodies against evil, so he’ll be OK. He knows how to handle himself, even though he’s been altered. But there is a little bit of a surprise, in terms of this semi-possession, which I can’t tell you about. There’s a little bit of a twist.”Plus, this ordeal with Michael “doesn’t take as big a toll” on the hunter as, say, his experience in Hell did, the EP reveals, “because there’s something else that’s going to happen that will take a bigger toll on Dean, and he has to pay attention to that.”
So there is a hint for semi-possession and maybe there is a reason why we haven’t seen the clip where Dean actually said yes to Michael and how that all transpired.
Something else will take a bigger toll in Dean and it’s in regard to semi-possession, so maybe that has something to do with the Empty and also remember that Dean is scheduled to meet Death too.
A reasonable interpretation of the current commentary available, but not what I draw from it. Rather, I wonder if “semi-possession” is more what is upcoming after episode 2, such as residual/repressed Michael in Dean by some mechanic we don’t know yet; as in, for example, them opting to cooperate better to deal with a different threat brought to the surface or something we haven’t identified yet. This touches back on a Jensen quote during hiatus, which interview it was I can’t remember but it was a video one – where he mentions that the Michael situation won’t be as resolved as people will think it is. Dabb and co mentioned enduring effects through the season. We thought we’d be chasing flashbacks or something, but it could very easily be this. Under some mechanic we’re yet to discover Michael takes backseat again but becomes a rotating door situation more like Gadreel, perhaps, and why he isn’t ejected totally, we have to find out in the next few episodes as various new threats surface, since Michael himself is not the actual primary threat.
Edit: To clarify above reblog, I kinda brainfused Dabb’s comments about possession/residual effects and ERL’s comments about semi-possession, but hopefully my point is understood.
OH FUCK I JUST FIGURED IT OUT.
NICK. I WILL BET MONEY FOR REASONS UNKNOWN NICK WILL BE THE SURPRISING NEAR-DEATH.
Nick dies *for reasons* and Jack surprises *even himself* in choosing to save his life and then we end up with the fucking Empty in Nick somehow again *for reasons* and BuckLeming may very well be trying to think of how to have Lucifer piggyback out on that too while keeping it “fresh” with The Empty.
The death/rescue that surprises Jack and removes Cas from the equasion for a while will be Nick, probably panning into the Empty.
jack saving nick is very plausible. nick is wearing the face of his dead-beat father dna donor, after all (in a weird reverse of claire&cas).
but how would that take cas out of the equation? how will that make cas go off for Plot Related Reasons?
i’m honestly confused as to how that would work.
any ideas? i can accept jack saving nick because that makes sense from what we know of jack. he wants to be good. he doesn’t want innocent people to get hurt and he recognizes that nick is NOT lucifer.
but that being why cas has to go off to chase more Plot Things? idk, ya lost me there.

So @casgirlsam mentioned the filming playlist recently and I realized I hadn’t listened to it or even paid attention since around the end of filming episode 2 because I got kidnapped into working on stuff for CultFans and The Outpost and… all of my other ridiculous itinerary, but can I just say…
I am absolutely in love with the fact that they used Sam Tinnesz?? It’s so much classic rock but here comes Sam Tinnesz coming for me. He’s one of my major muses.
For anyone that hasn’t listened to it or looked at it or whatever, it’s here. Episode 3 sounds particularly tragic.
Note: TPTB waved a white flag of it not being official or anything, but I find it interesting to listen to *why* this may be a creative muse for someone while they’re filming or seeing filming happening, and a lot of episode 1 seemed to fit. It’s not exactly prophetic but it’s a good way to get the mood we may be catching.
It’s given me to touch back on some of my season 14 speculation & feelings, which were admittedly shorthand, but the playlist is an efficient mood to get to talking.
i definitely am with you an all of this but especially that. considering i spent weeks putting together cas-mention numbers, i can confidently say that cas is going to be mentioned at least once each episode when he’s gone doing Plot Needed Things. it’ll either be a call or This Is What Cas Is Doing
I just kind of want to start an open floor thread for people to reblog and tell me all the things that make them happiest about the potential for Sam and Cas to finally start bonding past Dean. I mean, I love Dean-Cas, and we’ve had some Sam-Cas before but it’s always so swift. And yes, we want Dean back, and whatnot, but… this is a new opportunity to explore these two without Sam just being wedged between eyeball sparring and whatever else and I’m incredibly happy about it, and want to hear EVERYONE’S ideas of their hopes, wants, and whatever else about this (likely short, but THERE) plot arc.
If you go longer than like, the above paragraph, please put it behind a cut. I’ll add mine later on once people have had a chance to add their own squii. Literally, I just… want to see this discussion between everyone. Pl0x.
Edit for Disclaimer: This is a good things thread. Don’t be a bitter dick.
I want to see Sam and Cas hunting together. Like if the season can open with a montage of those two just working off each other, that’d be awesome. I want to see Sam supporting Cas and Jack as they grow into their own as hunters. And maybe the two of them sitting around the war room drinking beer and talking about Dean and the AU hunters, and heaven dying. Like talk about the things that hurting them, kind of deal.
100% yes, definitely. Also collecting some comments from the notes:
I’m hoping that they get to work over their plans to save Dean, to help Jack cope with losing his powers together, for Sam to tell Cas to stay safe on a mission stuff, that he doesn’t want to lose him too, stuff like that.
This is Dean-related but totally Sam/Cas. I want Cas to talk to Sam about how much he’s (Sam) changed, how he’s no longer the doomed little brother that always needs saving, how far he’s come and grown as a person, separate from Dean. I want Cas to tell Sam it’s okay to desire a life outside of hunting, a life of his own making (some day when SPN ends in 30 years) versus the life Dean sucked him back into. And I want Sam and Cas to get a puppy while Dean is gone
I’d like them to talk about their grief. I mean, poor Sam had to repress his grief last season and will likely do the same next season, so some emotional talk sessions will be nice.
We all seem to be on the same page: working out their damages, working together, developing a healthier balance to their relationship, recognizing their achievements; are there any specific PLOTLINES anyone’s hoping for, even if it’s in complete crack theory right now?
not really a theory so much as i want there to be literal guinea pigs in the bunker (so technically just plain crack)
in terms of plot…. idk i really want a hunt with them where it’s just off the wall weird. maybe something that feeds off the strain of their relationship not having a chance to fully form. and the one that figures it out is jack. maybe because they’re having an angst off? idk i just really want something goofy that helps them forget their pain for a short time (AND OURS TOO).
