I don’t know man, I’m just really enjoying the 10 Minute Power Hour segments.
I feel like I’m watching Ryland and Alex interacting with each other, not some other exaggerated personas of Arin and Dan.
Maybe it’s just me, but I am thoroughly entertained.
What’s funny is I felt like re-watching Good Game last night and that’s exactly what I thought too! Dan playing a super chill dude that fucks around, but does it with a purpose behind it and Arin playing a guy who’s wound too tight
”You’re the worst thing that have ever happened to me”
I think I’ve seen some people being concerned about Ryland saying this to Alex. I can totally see where they are coming from.
Though for me it didn’t register as Ryland’s animosity towards Alex. At least based on my personal understanding of where Ryland’s mind is.
Not to defend Ryland here, but in my experience it’s pretty common to be annoyed at people who are actively pushing you out of your comfort zone (and this is exactly what Alex is doing to Ryland). It’s hard to control and doesn’t mean you’re actually mad at that person. It’s just an immature defensive mechanism.
So when I watched this scene it didn’t even sound like Ryland was being angry or resentful. It just felt like a decade-old argument, which Ryland probably throws around a lot, being a depressed, emotionally stunted baby he is. At least Alex didn’t seem offended, I bet he’s pretty used to it by now. (I’d even say he should be aware that he’s the one causing Ryland some considerable discomfort, but Alex is not exactly a model of self-awareness. Or even reality-awareness for this matter).
On a different note, I really liked this particular piece of dialog, and also their argument at the party. I think there is a potential for a conflict and complicated relationship dynamics. Ryland and Alex’s “platonic partnership” definitely has a layer of latent hostility which could’ve been interesting to explore. (yeah, let’s forget for a moment we’re talking about six episodes of considerably rushed comedy show here). A-a-anyway.
YES
Whenever i push my best friend or he pushes me, we both go “i dont know why we’re friends”. it’s not because we dont love each other. It’s because we’re being pushed to do something we dont want to do, but we know it’s for the best. People who have known each other for ages, ive noticed, tend to do some form of angry old married couple crap that looks mean-spirited to an outsider.
*breathes in deep*
SAM IS BI
I mean, on the plus side it’s a 1 bedroom apartment and if Ash is also staying there, someone has to share with Ryalnd…
Can we just talk about how Alex is too adorable for our own good?
