I know the boys have joked before about Bob Singer’s “hands off” directing style (how he doesn’t make any notes, doesn’t give the actors any instructions, etc) and how the on set people up in Vancouver and the writing room/post prod people down in LA don’t really cross paths or communicate much.. but I gotta say, learning that neither Bob Singer nor Andrew Dabb gave Jensen ANY direction on how to play Michael kind of.. sucks. The way Jensen talks about it sounds like they just let him flounder.

I mean, that’s the same thing they did with Misha when he was to play Casifer and he went to several of them, even fizzywater, asking for help and direction. The attitude is basically “You’ll figure it out, go ahead.”

And this is how you end up with the abominable Empty and Nazi Cas accents which they then go wtf at when they see the dailies. If they want it done a certain way friggin direct it then. It ain’t hard…

I more credit Empty and Nazi Cas to the fact that 1. Misha has had to do 23098423984 renditions and 2. he only does it when he’s playing roles off of himself. Casifer was actually really good, IMO. Now, I’d more-say “this is how you get marionette battles because nobody on set knows wtf to do.”

Talking about set-stalkers, there are people claim that the production is telling them to not take photos of what are filming and my guess is because the production is filming something big

intelligentshipper:

I’d like clearer links to that since I’m not hot on the beat lately, but that sounds interesting. Right now they’re filming 14.9 though, which by our release schedule and general common sense stuff is our midseason finale, so I can imagine, yes, they’d want to keep some of it under wraps.

Add in that they’re still trying to keep mystique about “HOW LONG WILL MICHAEL DEAN GO?!” like we all don’t know he’s back by episode 3 and likely end of episode 2.

Hi! I don’t ever message anyone on here, but have to know – where did you find the TPTB filming Spotify playlist? Do they have one for every season?

hi! welcome!

i found it on twitter…. i cant remember exactly where, i’m sorry.

as far as every season, possibly, but this is the first i’ve seen one.

i do want to make note, tho, that this isn’t officially anything. it’s kinda like jason fischer’s quote of the day from what i understand of it. it doesn’t necessarily relate to any storyline.

HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean that we can’t speculate and relate anyway. for example, there are a lot of artists/songwriters on that playlist that are famous bisexuals and, being a bi!dean fan myself, i’ve been flipping over it.

hope that clears things up as much as possible. if you have any other questions, definitely let me know!

Destiel isn’t fake representation (or, Dot is done with your shutdown arguments)

Let me first point out a few things about openly confirmed canon bi Dean and/or canon Destiel, just to establish a baseline of where things are regarding canon.

This.

Oh my god, all of this.

But especially this:

Canon Destiel (and bi Dean) would subvert expectations on what a hero looks like.

And, frankly, subvert expectations on what queerfolk look like. Let’s look at Hugo Ateo, who played one of the famous Hunter Husbands narrative mirrors in SPN, and when he posted on National Coming Out Day.

He was already “out” among his peers but realized he never publicized it, so posted in support of others, and had this discussion about media representation – and about how he, a gay man, was never allowed to play a gay man until then because he wasn’t “believably gay.”

Pairings LIKE the Hunter Husbands need to happen more regularly, but not just as one-offs, not just as dismissive things never spoken of again. People shouldn’t go “well you had one good example in 300 episodes so shut up and sit down.” That isn’t how that works.

Destiel fits the same mold, and ironically, that very episode highlights it perfectly. It’s one of the best things I can think of to even make this kind of example while simultaneously even going so far as to address issues like repression, or internal struggle, confusion, or late coming-out or self-awareness/acceptance.

The ability that Destiel HOLDS in this corner is unlike any other I’ve witnessed.

I will also add that shows with LGBT main ships tend to make it obvious very soon to avoid queerbaiting accusations and mostly to get the viewers that comes with having representation. LGBT+ ship rarely get to have the slow burn M/F ship can have without people denying their existence and denying they can be canon.

SPN was supposed to end in season 5 that’s when Dean got a romantic “Endgame”. That means SPN won’t give them any lasting romance before the end. Not necessarily the last episode but the last season. That means that if Destiel is endgame they are writing it the way they would have had it been a M/F couple. And isn’t it how good representation is done? Indivualizing couples because every relationship is different, but at the same time not making a difference in the general way you write between a queer couple and m/f couple?

The only difference is that because of the burden of proof put on LGBT+ relationship people refuse to see Destiel as a possibility.

Network Politics BS: My hot take on Wayward’s pass-over, Legacies, Charmed & misc.

intelligentshipper:

Okay, so I’ve had some people ask why I mention Charmed at all (other people do, too, but I guess people just tend to wonder since I back my sh*t up generally) if it was Legacies that bumped Wayward off the line officially. This, however, requires some talk of schedules, network politics, budgets, and all kinds of crazy malarky.
