Outsiders are not not saving a language by learning it.

amer-ainu:

While I’m personally grateful services like Tribalingual exist, creating some academic access to Indigenous languages, particularly for Indigenous diaspora (if they can afford it), I’m extremely dubious of the notion that a outsiders learning an Indigenous language is somehow “saving” it.

There was a testimonial from some white American girl learning Ainu itak, and she spoke of it as if she were collecting some rare Pokemon card before it went out of print or something, framing it in typical dying Native rhetoric. What is she going to do with Ainu itak, except as some obscure lingual trophy?

If you want to save a language, save the people.

Language means nothing without history and culture breathing life into it, and in turn we are disconnected from our history and ancestors without it. Support Indigenous quality of life, ACCESS to quality education, quality health services (mental and physical), land and subsistence rights, CLEAN DRINKING WATER, advocate against police brutality and state violence, DEMAND ACTION FOR MISSING AND MURDERED INDIGENOUS WOMEN.

Damn, if you really want to “save the language” pay for an Indigenous person’s classes for them to reconnect to their mother tongues. I’m not saying outsiders shouldn’t learn languages they’re invited to learn, but don’t pretend like you learning conversational Ainu itak is saving it from extinction.

This is the most punk rock thing I’ve ever seen

What gets me is that initial pause. The bird knows this song. He knows when the drum comes in. Being able to anticipate musical rhythm is a form of intelligence very few species have, and this is the most remarkable example of it I’ve ever seen in a bird. The cockatoo knew to wait for the drums.

rhythmic awareness: a prerequisite of language evolution

I don’t often get political… but something has happened

Trump. He and his administration are trying to change the law so that whatever gender you were “born as” is your unchangeable sex/gender.

[1.4 MILLION AMERICANS]

This is from a new New York Times article, regarding the technicalities of what has been said. They go even further to discuss what they accurately call “biggest battlegrounds” for transgender students: the bathrooms and locker rooms.

We can’t be quiet about this. They are trying to erase who we are. To make it so that we just DON’T EXIST. As a transgender male who lives in America, this scares the shit out of me.

As I said, I don’t normally get political on my blog, but you all need to know about this.

don’t let this happen

Emmet till was 14 years old. Tamir Rice was 12 years old. Jeremiah
Harvey is 9 years old. American society doesn’t view our black boys as
children. It’s been open season on them for a long time. It is improper
and unfair. Yes he’s traumatized…hes got to be in 4th grade!

I’m so tired of forgiveness being in the foreground of these interviews. After all this babys tears, it feels like it was more about setting that Glenn Danzig looking bitch at ease.

Meanwhile Teresa Klein has been lapping it up and having photo shoots in the same deli dispute the owner telling her repeatedly to GET OUT.

This is more an opportunity for her grandstanding than anything. Btw “dont forget! Shes Jewish ” and the shit relationship between us has to be “talked about” as well.

Hyperarousal is a primary symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).   Being overly sensitive to sounds is one of the symptoms.

I have this and in my opinion, Jared’s portrayal is pretty damn accurate.

1. I love this post, it’s very accurate, as someone who has very similar responses, and it’s another reason I correspond so closely with him, in a long list.

2. However, this came on when “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” had rolled up on a youtube list and somehow these gifs in combination, especially the first three, became hypnotic for all the wrong reasons and I literally had to turn off my music to really absorb this for what I knew it was because wow, mood clash.

What if I love you?

Connor watched as Hank drank another a beer. Figuring out his emotions and dealing with them had been a constant struggle for Connor since he deviated. He felt as if there was a constant weight in his chest, though everything came back as normal, he couldn’t get rid of the pressure. Sometimes it eased, when Hank gave him a smile, when he gave Connor a hug. If Connor closed his eyes and reconstructed the hug he could feel that weight start to lighten in his chest.

“Hank, I really don’t think you should drink so much.” It was his third beer of the night and Connor had a feeling it wouldn’t be Hank’s last.
