Also interesting: there are 6 RPS on this list, most from relatively large/widespread fandoms (One Direction) or with big-name celebrities (Taylor Swift and Karli Kloss). And yet there’s Misha and Jensen keeping company with folks who have sheer numbers on their side.
It doesn’t make us any better or any more right (we’re right), but it suggests a much larger proportion of the fandom in general is behind this ship (and tagging frantically). Well done, team. Very well done.
I’m mostly fascinated that Cockles runs that close to Sabriel content. I mean it’s no secret to fandom that Destiel is a huge phenomenon, but Sabriel keeps fairly close company (while not being totally mutual) and generally, RPS isn’t as widely accepted as, say … well, actual fiction ships due to moral holdoffs and social reservation against it. So to say, “The concept of RPS ship Cockles is the size of Sabriel, the second largest ship in the fandom” is… actually pretty big lmao. I don’t even go here but I’ll give accolades where accolades is due. They all outperformed other supposedly ancient huge ships, such as Wincest, which didn’t make the list, much less J2.
In b4 J2 hats or Wincest shippers start trying to whine about crosstagging being responsible, which they’re actually a bigger criminal in than anything, with no explanation on why they didn’t even clip the top 100 in the fictional ship ahoyhoy.

i mean, i got so bored proving positive engagement numbers vs negative on official tweets, i stopped only two episodes in this season. they’re THAT insignificant in numbers.
and a note i wanted to add about sabriel: it’s such a tiny ship, it’s nearly a rare-pair. one half of the pair was presumed dead until the 2017-2018 tv season and even then he’s now been presumed dead (I WANNA BELIEVE OK HES NOT DEAD JUST LIKE EILEEN ISNT) since like may. and yet despite one character missing, it still managed to get a spot on the list.
Sabriel has always metrically had good longevity though. It’s a fairly unique keyword on twitter with an all-time popularity of 26.1, even if it goes through long quiet ruts because of, you know, various deadinations. To put that in scale, Wincest has a 39.1 all time popularity factor, but if you check, it’s biggest impactors are NOT fandom related, because it’s a phase used by the general incest community too. The current reading in the link is also the highest impact value I’ve ever seen FROM fandom, they’re usually tinyfont.
But even there, incest, ass, milfs, tits, and teens are all equal or considerably higher impactors (incest itself being the largest associated tag); and “винцест”, which a translator tells me means “vintage” running about the same level as SPN as a hash. And again, usually the SPN associations are weaker, they’re performing stronger than normal. Even still, this pans out to only about ¼ of usage being fandom related. It has only a 6.6 correlation to Supernatural, 9.7 to J2, 5.9 to SPN (=22.2). 35.7 to “incest”, 11 to “teens”, 12.5 to “ass”, 6.9 to “tits”, 11 to milfs (77.1). The rest falls ambiguously into “gifs” and “vintage”. Some times it ranks 1/8 to 1/10th SPN association.
So you take that 39.1 all time usage and crop it down to about ¼ and suddenly it has less than a 10.0 in actual fandom usage, which puts Sabriel about 2 ½ times ahead of it and Destiel, well… it’s a 51.8. It too has surges from awards, major plot events etc, but runs, in example, a 24.3 recently. IE “recently” Sabriel only runs a 0.5, Wincest an initial 13.7 that divides to under 3.4.
And yes, the trend remains on google and other platforms too.
Sabriel’s just sort of a quiet, unimposing champion in the fandom which runs at about half the platform usage of Destiel (wherein Wincest runs at about 1/5th usage). If you run the same hash checks on other things, you get the same results. Maybe I should take emily’s lead and pie chart everything.
Similarly if you run hash checks on the names of actors, or characters, they all pan high-40s to low-50s in about the same rung as Destiel itself (JaredPadalecki, JensenAckles, MishaCollins, SamWinchester, DeanWinchester, Castiel.)
