Dean is but isn’t going through big trauma and Michael is and isn’t our biggest bad and Cas has and hasn’t found his place yet and the show is and isn’t just about the brothers and they are and aren’t driving the Impala without Dean.

Thank you TPTB, these interviews clear everything up.

Seriously though, I’m starting to wonder if they’re just intentionally releasing interviews for different ends of the fanbase to beat each other with and pacify different quarters of standom because LITERALLY what they say in one interview is DEADASS OPPOSITE said two days later and I’m starting to think this is some wild ass hunger games fandom shit they’re doing to fuck with everybody.

Yes, they’re doing this on purpose

Trying to make stan twitter have a bloodbath and get rid of itself on all sides lmao

Lol nah it’s Dabb (actual showrunner making decisions and competent writer in his own right) versus Eugenie who can’t even remember what she wrote last week so contradicts herself and her colleague in her own freaking episode. Twice.

I mean.

That’s like comparing a stale mouldy cheese cracker to a Michelin starred lobster Thermidor.

Even Dabb has conflicted on his angle about the brothers though. Honestly, they’re just openly saying whatever the fuck and leaving a few vagueries. I do agree that Leming is on her own shit like normal, but I’m also reading that as a potential tell of her wedging forward some other half cracked big bad we’re gonna have to deal with that Dabb is gonna mostly quarantine off to the side while letting her play in her corner of the sandbox and feel accomplished.

You know I wonder. Destiel and the bro bond are the two most polarising issues on the show. The PR gets around Destiel by just not talking about it at all but they can’t exactly do that with the Sam and Dean relationship. There’s those who want them to just be co-dependent and together 4eva, and there’s where the show is actually heading – towards a more healthy and less willing to sell their souls for each other type relationship. But until we get there we’re stuck in this middle ground where because of the show’s structure, Sam and Dean will always be together, so maybe that’s why the angle on the brothers is so conflicted. They don’t want to piss off the bros only crowd especially right now when they don’t need to. Just my vague, half baked thoughts.

I more take it as marketing. The thing is, Dabb *has* pissed off the bros crowd. In one interview or panel he’ll say SPN has proven it can work off of a wider cast, in the next it’s Just Bros, in the next it’s about how many other characters they have to focus on, and then back to the line of Sam and Dean. It’s less about pissing off or not pissing off bros fans as much as saying the same old song and verse. Actual GA fans already know Sam & Dean will be there. It’s a vague company line at this point that’s just a general market shove but is rarely thoroughly committed to, even interview to interview.

Also again with the GA, Brobond and Destiel aren’t necessarily in competition as much as they are complimentary. Most of the audience doesn’t have stan twitter shrieking in their ear but is simultaneously exposed to the Destiel themed content, whether or not it’s canon consummated, there’s a reason people wander into fandom and go “Wait, what, people argue about this???” People too straight lensed don’t see it, that’s it’s own discussion, but whether it’s platonic or romantic they’re at least seen as a duo by 99% of the audience. Which is also why Dean shreds both Sam and Cas in general popularity/fame polls beyond tiny fandom niches (and even in large scale fandom censuses) because he also gets the attention of people who enjoy either/or/both duos atop whatever plot ends people can debate into the wind.

It’s less about keeping anything in competition and more in maintaining a droll company line to market to people who have different preferences. Those preferences aren’t entirely polarized abroad like they are in stan twitter. It’s entirely possible to like bro bond and Destiel both, and is actually extremely common, but having a preference is human nature, not all interests are equal and maintaining the base line markets to the bro-bonders that miss the glory days. Hell, I miss the glory days. I’d post/reblog more about S1-3 if it wasn’t attached to a goddamn pillar of incest and tinhatting left and right in this fandom. Cuz liking the bros doesn’t mean I like wormholes of brotherfucking or aluminum foil.

Honestly it’s just marketing, but I find it hilarious how blatant it’s being done like. Yup. And Sam and Dean still exist. Something something. Core of the show. Like the other cores of the show we talk about depending on the day. Which one’s your favorite? Pick. We’re doing all the things.

The sad thing is if you deleted all Sam & Dean mention in these interviews, you could probably speculate the season just as well as if you didn’t have them. Because half of it conflicts and half is vague pacification and buzz word usage whereas Cas, and others, we at least get insight in a direction.

I see what he’s doing. It is, in fact, a form of pandering, in the way pandering works on a marketing level. Just enough mention of it to pull attention from those who want any given thing. But in the end we’re getting very minimal info about anything regarding Sam & Dean that we didn’t know. Even if you delete Eugenie’s word vomit in conflict it’s like… Yup. Dean is Michael. He’s gonna be traumatized. Sam’s being leadery. We been knew that, dude. They’re gonna come together and do bro things. We knew that too, dude.
