I know the boys have joked before about Bob Singer’s “hands off” directing style (how he doesn’t make any notes, doesn’t give the actors any instructions, etc) and how the on set people up in Vancouver and the writing room/post prod people down in LA don’t really cross paths or communicate much.. but I gotta say, learning that neither Bob Singer nor Andrew Dabb gave Jensen ANY direction on how to play Michael kind of.. sucks. The way Jensen talks about it sounds like they just let him flounder.

I mean, that’s the same thing they did with Misha when he was to play Casifer and he went to several of them, even fizzywater, asking for help and direction. The attitude is basically “You’ll figure it out, go ahead.”

And this is how you end up with the abominable Empty and Nazi Cas accents which they then go wtf at when they see the dailies. If they want it done a certain way friggin direct it then. It ain’t hard…

I more credit Empty and Nazi Cas to the fact that 1. Misha has had to do 23098423984 renditions and 2. he only does it when he’s playing roles off of himself. Casifer was actually really good, IMO. Now, I’d more-say “this is how you get marionette battles because nobody on set knows wtf to do.”
