Okay, so you know what drives me nuts?  When people (particularly the haters) use Sam’s and Castiel’s first meeting as proof that Castiel is a dick who hates Sam.

I mean…that is either a deliberate misinterpretation of that scene, or people are for some reason not getting it.

Most importantly, it establishes Castiel’s rebellious/too-much-heart nature before his character was even planned to be on the show for more than a few episodes.

You see…Sam greets him in full on puppy-mode:

And Castiel does look a little Uriel-ish:

And then he takes Sam’s hand:

And looks up and calls him the “boy with the demon blood:”

Which, yeah, if it was left at that, total dick.

BUT!

Then Castiel does this:

Castiel acknowledges that he knows everything about Sam.  That he’s “corrupted” and an “abomination,” a nasty mud monkey that Uriel doesn’t even want to be in the same room with.  And what does he do?

He puts his hand on top of Sam’s, an intimate gesture, showing that he is not afraid or unwilling to touch him.  That he thinks Sam is still a good person and that he deserves God’s (and all angels’) love.

I mean, Sam’s own father suggested Dean might have to kill him, and Castiel accepts him and lets him know that not everyone thinks he’s beyond saving.

LIKE.  DO YOU SEE HOW AMAZING CASTIEL IS?  DO YOU SEE HOW LOVING?

He’s better than a cinnamon roll.

He’s a made from scratch Christmas morning orange roll.

Always big heart… oh Cas

Omg YES. His first ten seconds with Sam: You are valid.

His first ten seconds with Dean: Validated (or at least is surprised enough by Dean’s reservations to challenge the fact) that he deserved saving.

Cas, my beautiful angel with the big, beautiful heart!

Castiel, Angel of the Lord could see directly into their souls, saw what good people they were and validated/comforter both of them re: their biggest fears. He was, in comparison to all the other Angels they met, extremely kind to them even though his mission was literally just to get them ready to be meatsuits.

His openness is what led him to realise what was wrong with Heaven and led to his fall.

Too much heart was always Castiel’s problem best asset.

Even if one ignores this extremely intimate gesture somehow, I am always boggled by “ten years ago before all character growth and journeys together he was mean and I will grind that ax forever.” Y’all seriously. Grow up.

And it would be interesting to know if the hand gesture was intentional from the writers or something that Misha picked up and just delivered cause he thought it was fitting for Castiel. Probably the latter.

As for @intelligentshipper remark: *claps hands viciously* Why do you even follow said show if you  just ignore all the character growth and all the journeys that they have been through, together and apart? It’s like going to a high school reunion and being judged for all that you were 15 years ago, or worse yet, being judged by someone that loves and knows you because they refuse to see what you are today. Instead they keep holding on to the person you were, stifling you and frankly dishonoring all that you are today.

Only instead of a highschool reunion of people you haven’t seen for 15 years, who don’t know anything BUT what you did 15 years ago, it’s people who you graduated highschool with, went to the same college as, worked the same jobs as, moved into the neighborhood of, went to all the same block parties as, while your life very clearly changed and they’re still obsessed with some minor slight you did all those years ago no matter how many gestures you’ve tried to make since, they are STILL the petty bitches that keep bringing up what you did in 1492. Which makes them the petty bitches. Not you.

Imagine living a life where you literally hold any perceived slight, regardless of context or gestures during the slight, against ANYONE AND EVERYONE for a DECADE spare for 1-2 people you give passes to regardless of how much they very evidently fucked up at any given moment, and then begrudge anyone that takes immediate issue in the immediate moment with those people’s fuck ups, and grind those axes forever too. Man, people like that would literally be filled with nothing but anger and hate ALL THE TIME.

…Oh wait…
