Sam and Cas have never had that same connection. It was formed the moment that Cas pulled Dean out of Hell. Cas is pulling out all the stops, he’s willing to make any kind of deal with any kind of devil in order to get Dean back. He’s attempting to form unsavory alliances and leaving no stone unturned. The entire hunter clan is wildly searching for any possible solution to the problem. Sam was initially more weary of Cas. They have grown closer over the years and we see that in the beginning of this season. They’re showing care and concern for one another to an extent that we haven’t quite seen before.
So once again Cas is going to do something stupid, like he did saying yes to Lucifer, releasing him from the cage. He never learns.
Lol so a bronly’s take from this lovely quote, that Cas cares so much for Dean and Cas and Sam are bonding, is somehow a negative (and the something “stupid” they bring up that Cas did was one Sam was planning on doing hence he was in the cage in the first place).
That’s a small thing I call canon folks. I know it’s elusive to Bronlies but there we go.

Keep in mind that these are the same people that are laughing at “TPTB shutting down Destiel” with the brother comment appended to what Misha says about Cas and Sam working together, as well as complaining about “Misha inflating his importance,” which I made this helpful little guide for idiots.
Their inability to discern these things tells me a lot about their thought process though.
Now what we CAN gather from this article is that EW, one of the most privileged reporting networks for SPN, do seem to naturally gather that Cas is, in the very least, a brother, which is also a safe descriptor. Then again the same author has called them “his angel” or whatever else, so heyooo pay attention to your sources, folks.
