a (belated) deancasversary fic, that’s all there is to say
“Alright, you ready?” Claire asked, leaning back on her heels and looking at Dean excitedly. Cas sat at the table looking from Claire to Dean, confused. Sam had let her in a few minutes ago and Cas was the only one who had no idea what was going on.
“Uh, yeah, I think so,” Dean said. He didn’t say he’d been mentally preparing to leave ever since he woke up a few hours ago.
“Where are you—” Cas began, frowning at Dean, silently asking for an explanation.
“It’s nothing,” Dean said, maybe a little too quickly. “She uh—got some issues with a car of a friend and they wanted me to look at it.” He cringed at the lame excuse, but Cas seemed to bite. Dean glared at Sam who just shrugged, but it was his fault, after all. If Sam hadn’t insisted on that Dean should take Claire to do this, this would’ve been easier.
“We’ll be back in a few hours, don’t worry.” He walked over to Cas, who turned and smiled gently at him. Dean’s heart jumped, and he leaned in to kiss Cas’ hair. Their hands brushed together momentarily; a small gesture, but one that got Dean lost for words.
“Be careful,” Cas said as they walked out, and Dean could see Claire smiling from the corner of his eyes.
