Thoughts for this Friday morning: reflecting on last night’s SPN 13×17.

I have a theory that I propose; some of you may find merit in it; others may not, but I just thought I would throw it out there.

What if: at the end of 5×19, Gabriel did exactly as some have said; he tricked Lucifer and went back into hiding? By season 9, when he shows himself to Cas, he had somehow been found(and captured/trapped) by Metatron, who, as the scribe, would have known the right spells/ingredients to trap an archangel. So many of you have commented on that conversation he had with Cas, where he looked like someone who had been trapped or caged but unable to escape.

It would then stand to reason that Cas would assume that Gabriel was truly gone after that, and not tried to find him. So finally when we see that Metatron has been defeated and captured, and subsequently destroyed, he had actually forgotten about Gabriel in his quest for power and ensuing struggle to stay relevant/alive?

Who knows where he would have secreted the archangel? Only he would have. But then, someone did find where Gabe was, and turned him over to Asmodeus(who was obviously running around loose, as were the other princes of hell). Asmodeus might have kept Gabe hidden away for a long while, biding his time, until he saw the perfect opportunity to take over.

Obviously, we know that time passes differently in hell, and it’s possible-just possible- that neither Lucifer nor Crowley were aware of what was transpiring in some hidden corner of hell.

Just my thoughts on this. Anyone else?

my head canon ATM is that Asmodeus had gabriel since ‘he died’, Remember what Ramiel said ‘Asmodeus has his hobbies’, i can see metatron making a deal with asmodeus to use Gabe.
